报告摘要:The well-known Fundamental Theorem of Symmetric Polynomials as- serts that every polynomial in n variables invariant under all permutations of the variables can be written uniquely as a polynomial in the n elemen- tary symmetric polynomials. In 1911, L.E. Dickson proved a similar result for polynomials with finite field coefficients invariant under the action of a finite general linear group. Since then, Dickson’s Theorem has been generalized to various sub- groups of a general linear group. In this talk I will present a result not only encompassing all of these generalizations but also giving many new examples. In particular, it applies to certain groups of matrices defined by sparsity patterns.
